Tom began his love for the construction industry at a young age by working summers at a construction company. He then attended Southeast Community College earning an Associate’s degree in Architecture. After graduation, he began his career designing fire sprinkler systems with Grinnell Fire Protection. After six years of design, he decided to pursue a career path to electrical work. He earned his journeyman’s electrical license and practiced commercial electrical work for six years. This experience led Tom to the UNMC campus, where he accepted a position as a Controls Technician. During the next nine years of his career, Tom worked on various construction projects on the UNMC campus to upgrade the control systems to newer, energy saving technology. These projects led to the formation of the Strategic Energy Initiatives group, where Tom became an Automation Project Technician. During this time, he had the opportunity to design, project manage, and commission the automation systems of some of the most complex projects on the UNMC campus. When Tom join Optimized Systems he realized it was the perfect place to live out his passion for automation controls and building optimization. Outside of work Tom enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife and two girls.
